|Folon and the Rose Garden|
The exhibition of Folon’s works at Forte Belvedere was memorable. That was back in 2005. Now Folon has returned to Florence after his premature death in the month of October of that year.
Folon’s desire to be somehow present in Florence has come true thanks to his widow, Paola Ghiringhelli, who has decided to donate ten of her husband’s bronze sculptures and two plaster ones to the Municipality of Florence.
These works of art have become a permanent exhibition in the Giardino delle Rose (the Rose Garden), a green terrace right below Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking the historic centre of the city and enjoying a breathtaking view equal in beauty to that from Forte Belvedere.
The Garden has been entirely redesigned better to display the works by Folon, recreating the magic atmosphere he succeeded in evoking with the exhibition six years ago and offering once again that panoramic effect, that view of the city from above, carefully sought and found by the artist.
Once again, and now without time limits, visitors will be able to admire the unique view of Santa Maria del Fiore and Palazzo Vecchio through the big suitcase of Partir; they will rest next to Folon’s man on the timeless bench of Je me souviens; they will stroke the Chat, the large cat sleeping on the grass among rosebushes; they will enjoy the refreshing coolness of the fountains Vivre and Mediterranée or of a shaded corner near 25ème Pensée, one of Folon’s enigmatic figures, whose head disappears into the vegetation; and, finally, together with L’Envol, they will once again be able to take flight over the city and admire it from above.
Opening hours: every day from 9.00 am until sunset.
